Wilts rally recce, Sat 4 Apr 26.
0800 found 5 Wilts riders meeting at Choppers CafΓ©, Burbage, Marlborough, SN8 3RT for a full, ‘fat boys’ π breakfast to discuss the day & plan the route.
With Alan Weatherall ably leading the way (& riding a Honda too!) & the Honorary President on her new Indian Scout Bobber, the quirky quintet of Alan W, Andrew Y, Claire & Dave J & Rob G set off through the fine rain π§οΈ via some interesting, and scenic, minor roads on the 2 hour or so ride to Cheddar Gorge (BS27 3QE).
Thankfully, the weather improved & it was just the congested, Bank Holiday parking, the steep ascent and hundreds of steps left to negotiate down Jacob’s Ladder.
After finding a Pub with more accessible parking & depriving several Ploughmen of their lunches (& cheesy chips) the Fantastic Five set off on the next leg to Weston-Super-Mare seafront.
Parking was more accessible here here & the fish π & chips π & ice creams π¦were plentiful.
With the plan being tweaked to better suit the route, distance & timings, it was decided not to incorporate Fowlers in Bristol on the homewards leg.
Additional ‘comfort’ stops were identified for mid morning & afternoon, & Weston-Super-Mare was now deemed an ice cream stop too far.
It was agreed that more time would be spent at the tourist trap known as Cheddar Gorge, enjoying a leisurely lunch & sightseeing the shops & caves etc instead.
So, with just the ride back to the rally site (The Woodbridge Inn, North Newnton, Pewsey, SN9 6JZ) left to complete, it was time to set off again with individuals peeling off on route for home.
A long, at times cold π₯Ά & damp but really worthwhile & enjoyable day where additional thanks must go to Alan W for planning the route & leading the ride.ποΈποΈποΈποΈποΈ π¨
