On Sunday, the 10th of November 2024, 11 HOWLers met at their pre-arranged formation points, of which there were two. After the relevant ride commanders had briefed their troops, it was time for the convoys to mobilize. The riders sallied forth through the territories of Surrey, Sussex, and into Hampshire to their rendezvous point on the Avenue De Caen in Southsea.
Once together, the HOWLers carried on the short distance where marshals from the Royal British Legion Riders Association did a great job of assembling well over 1000 bikes of all varieties into a tight formation to rest in silence for the duration of the Remembrance Service at the Royal Navy Memorial, a short distance across the grass of the Common.
The service delivered, and a solemn thought was held for those who gave everything so we can have what we have today. The HOWLers sought a hot drink and food while sharing personal experiences of combat; others shared their parents’ or grandparents’ history of armed service.
The mission wasn’t over; the HOWLers joined one of their biking comrades, Simon, and rode around to the Falklands Memorial so Simon could lay a wreath to honour the remembrance of those he served with who had fallen. They had seen the names of those they had been told about in the experiences shared earlier.
Bikes were neatly arranged by Karen for a great line-up photo before mounting up and returning home.
HOWLers in attendance: Simon Butler, Karen Luck, Rob Crowley, Ian Gasson, Charles Deakin, Gary Clarke, Jon Stone, Jude Browne, Peter Le Monnier, Nicole Le Monnier, and Dan Walton.
