Six Go Twisty in Tesco Car Park!

Six riders headed to a Tesco car park for a session of Cone Riding, a fun and surprisingly challenging way of improving slow-speed motorcycle control.

We were an eclectic mix, ranging from newer riders to those with considerably more experience, but that is one of the great things about cone riding. Whatever your riding background, there is always something to practise and improve.

The session was designed to build confidence with slow-speed riding, balance, clutch and throttle control, tighter turns and manoeuvring the bike, all in a relaxed environment where having a laugh is very much part of the learning.

So, what was it actually like?

Judging by the comments afterwards, it was hard work at times, but everyone seemed to get something from the day.

Chris Woof summed it up nicely:

“It was a really good session. Best value £20 for a bike activity I think I’ve ever done.”

Nic Ridley agreed:

“I agree, an amazing day and biscuits too.”

Bry Ridley kept it simple:

“Great fun guys. Until next time.”

While Rachel perhaps best summed up just how tiring slow-speed riding can be:

“Had to have a nanna nap, I was shattered.”

As the day went on, things also became just a little competitive, with some riders even walking the course before the final test in search of those precious extra seconds.

When it came to the results, Bry was, perhaps unsurprisingly, the fastest, although Chris Woof made it a very close-run thing.

Chris then spent the rest of the day looking for a more suitable 250 or 400 for his next attempt, so it seems the competitive spirit may already have taken hold.

It was great fun, a chance to practise some genuinely useful riding skills and another cracking HOC day out.

Hopefully we will see a few more members weaving their way around the cones next time.
