This morning, Saturday 22nd June, started with a classic bit of comedy for the Gloucester HOC. The group was set to gather at the Toby Carvery in Brockworth, but James decided to make a grand entrance. He showed up late, claiming a torn contact lens had thwarted his morning dash.
While the rest of the members were already in the car park waiting, James finally arrived, his eyes still a bit squinty. Kev, on the other hand, thought they were having breakfast before the ride and was in a mild panic that he wouldn’t make it to Pat’s Baps on an empty stomach. Spoiler alert: he made it, and the breakfast kept him fuelled up for the return journey.
The group was delighted to welcome two new members, Vicky and Neil. Vicky, riding a Harley Davidson, kept her formation position like a true pro. The rest of the riders, well, they were a bit more relaxed with their non-Harley formations.
Keith, the fearless leader whose absolute favourite pastime is leading rides, took charge and guided the group along a scenic route. It was particularly special to have Keith back with us, as he’s recently returned to riding after knee surgery. With his extra metal, he’s practically our very own Terminator – minus the Harley Fatboy and Winchester 1887 shotgun! Picture it: rolling hills, charming villages, and perfect weather – not too hot, not too cold, just right. It was like riding through a postcard. Then, in true British fashion, they hit heavy roadworks traffic.
Enter Mr. Land Rover. This guy was in such a rush, he decided to overtake and ended up right behind Keith, awkwardly wedged between the leader and the second rider. He started beeping at Keith to move, as if their leisurely ride was an affront to his busy schedule. By the time they arrived at Pat’s Baps, Keith was not a happy bunny. However, he soon cheered up when his large breakfast arrived, transforming him from grumpy to grateful in no time.
They arrived at Pat’s Baps just before the swarm of other riders. Initially, the place was nearly empty, save for a couple of early birds. The serene atmosphere and the tantalising aroma of a hearty breakfast greeted them, making every minute of the journey worthwhile.
Their time at the cafe was filled with laughter, good conversations, and stories of past rides. The food was fantastic, living up to its reputation. Keith’s mood was lifted by his breakfast, Kev was happy he didn’t starve, and everyone enjoyed a wonderful morning together.
And guess what? They even managed to take some pictures. Well, actually, Kev asked someone to take the photos for them so that they could all be in them for a change! Thanks, fella!
So, here’s to many more rides filled with unexpected twists, hearty laughs, and breakfasts that turn grumpy bunnies into happy ones. The Gloucester HOC looks forward to the next adventure, hoping to dodge all the impatient Land Rovers along the way!
