Essex Branch Ride to Walton on the Naze

Sunday 28th June 2020.

There were 12 bikes and 13 members on the ride today. Those members were Jeff, Phil, Jim, Ashley, Ian, Kate, Geoff, Dave, Gabe, Mike, Mick, new member Jay and myself. We split ourselves into 2 groups.

We meet up at McDonalds Chelmsford for a 10am departure. The weather was cloudy, breezy but dry.

We set off trying to keep off dual carriageways. We rode via Hatfield Peverel, Witham, Braintree, Halstead, Sudbury to Hadleigh for our morning coffee stop. For your info, the Loo’s beside the car park were closed, but the Cafe we used allowed us to use their. The cafe was Huffers.

We set off again going via Layham, Raydon, Dedham, Ardleigh, Frating Green, Weeley and into Frinton and Walton on the Naze.

We parked up just past the “Revved Up” cafe and set ourselves up on the sea wall to have our lunch.

The beach wasn’t very busy, which was good to see considering all the hoards flooding onto the beaches recently.

Time came for the return journey home. As we neared the bikes we experienced a 5 minute heavy shower, we decided to wait for the cloud to pass over.

This time we set off going by Holland on Sea and Clacton, then via St Osyth to Colchester. We then continued via Colchester Zoo, Tiptree to Maldon where we had our afternoon coffee stop at Costa Coffee. We had a very light shower of rain on route to Maldon, but it only lasted a few minutes, not enough to make us stop.

After coffee we continued home via Fambridge, South Woodham Ferrers. People peeled off where necessary for home.

Today was a great ride out and with a new member, Jay. Welcome to the club Jay.

Today I rode 167.2 miles, door to door.

Until the next ride, be safe.

Roland Murphy.

Essex Branch Secretary.
