Wiltshire Head to Sammy Millers Classic Show

Wilts HOC ride out to Sammy Miller’s On Sunday 23rd July 2023.

An overcast Sunday saw the following 9 x Wilts HOC members:

Claire Jolly,

Dave Jolly,

Jimmy Young,

Andrew Young,

Sean Emery,

Nick Carey,

Haydn Carney,

Devlyne Kidd and

Gary Hemmings,

ride out to Sammy Millers Motorcycle Museum in New Milton, Hampshire.

9am saw Claire & Dave meeting at the car park of The Ram Pub in Tidworth with Jimmy, Andrew, Sean and Nick.

After brief hellos, we rode down to Countess Services on the A303 and met up with Haydn, Gary & Devlyne.

After a short brief from Jimmy and Sean confirming the drop-off system of marking turnings, the 125 cc friendly ride saw us heading south through Amesbury, on to Salisbury and then along the A338 towards Ringwood.

From there, Sean’s (‘green lane’) Sat nav led the motley crew into the New Forest along a particularly scenic and meandering route where we carefully bypassed numerous wild horses and crossed over several cattle grids.

After a pleasant hour and 15 minutes or so riding, we arrived at the museum.

Here we met up with Jude, Graham and Sarah and a few other HOC stalwarts who were busy organising, signing up new members and selling regalia etc. Our thanks are extended to them, as ever for their continued commitment and for underpinning the running of the HOC.

Meanwhile, Wilts HOC busied themselves socialising and admiring Sammy and Alan Millyard’s many classic motorcycles whilst sampling the excellent BBQ food and tea/coffee etc made available to weary riders…😋

The weather brightened up as the day progressed and at times it got sunny and pleasantly warm.

Later on during the afternoon Sammy even demonstrated his evergreen riding talent with a few (noisy!) laps of his car park on 2 x different classic bikes whilst Alan M did the technical stuff when one of the batteries was found to be flat!

After a period of helmet intercom fettling, it was time to head for home. Although incident free, the return journey took a slightly quicker (no 125 cc bike, although these are always welcome) but even more more scenic route back through the New Forest to Downton and then through Avebury via Salisbury. From this point individuals began to peel of after a lovely ride out with like-minded individuals to an interesting destination.

A good day’s riding! 🏍🙂😎
