A dry but chilly, 4 degrees Centigrade, April day saw four Wilts HOC members meet for a pre-ride, cooked breakfast at Oscar’s café, Tidworth.
A further six riders met the ‘suitably fortified four’, across the road in the Ram, Pub car park. One rider’s bike had an electrical problem, so just after 0930, ten became nine that set off on the recce ride out for Wilts’ rally.
Ably led by Barry (‘Jimmy’) Young, the first leg took us along the A272 for about an hour to a packed, Loomies Moto Café where we warmed ourselves with more hot beverages.
From there, it was through the pleasant town of Midhurst then Petworth and then a stop for refreshments at Goodwood Motor Circuit.
Here, Claire unfortunately got ‘harpooned’ in the throat by a bee but after appropriate medical treatment, bravely managed to continue.
We also got to see the next generation of baby Lewis Hamiltons learning their trade in electric ‘carts.’
A quick fuel stop followed and then it was the return leg to Popham Airfield by the side of the A303 for another comfort / warm up break as we spotted various planes ✈️ arriving and departing.
Riders broke off from this point for home, having covered around 150 miles on what was a very enjoyable, albeit chilly 🥶 day.
