North London visit Canvey Island

Sunday 6th July

I had never been to Canvey Island and although I heard it was nothing special, decided that I had to see it for myself. Added to the fact that we needed somewhere a bit different from the usual and so it was all arranged. It doesn’t get more glamorous than this! To my surprise a very pleasant team of ten made up the ride and I took us through back roads to Ingatestone, then past Hanningfield, to Rettenden and the A130 to Canvey. Our choice of cafe was restricted to where we could park the bikes but we found a pleasant enough cafe on Thorney Bay where we had a nice chat. Non of us had seen the sea yet as Canvey is below sea level and you have to climb an embankment to do so. Which a couple of us did. After lunch Richard kindly led us up to a fine cafe at Heybridge Basin where Chris T treated us to afternoonsies. I then resumed leading to get home through Chelmsford and onto the A414. We got caught in some late rain, but all in all, a fine day out.
