Jurassic June Jaunt for the Wilts Branch

On a wonderfully warm and sunny summer Sunday, a six strong band of brothers (and one sister on pillion) made a rendezvous at the Ram Inn with an ambitious aim; to visit Lulworth Cove, Portland Bill, and West Bay in a day.

Jimmy led us out from Tidworth, through Salisbury and off toward Dorset.

Our stop at Lulworth Cove was a treat, punctuated by pasties, paddle boarding pooches and the parking patrol.

We then made tracks for Portland Bill, taking in some scenic views on the way. The obligatory Mr Whippy was the order of the day, and while enjoying the ice cream we also lapped up the views by the lighthouse.

The route to West Bay was full of traffic and a couple of us got separated, but all was well in the end and we met up again by the Windy Corner Cafe.

Disappointingly, Helmet City next door looked to have shut up shop permanently, so after a quick coffee and a purchase of fudge, we mounted up and turned for home.

An uneventful ride back saw us safely in Tidworth in time for tea. Well, a quick orange and lemonade in The Ram before I finished my day with a quick sprint back to Swindon.

I covered 229 miles that day, really enjoying the roads, the stops, and the company.

Jimmy, Andrew and Katie, Phil, Hugh, and Haydn; thanks all for making it a great day of riding.
