Essex Branch Ride to St Neots

Saturday 20th June 2020.

There were 5 bikes and riders today on the ride. There was Ashley, Mike Bonner, two new members Dave and Mike and of course myself. The weather today remained dry for the ride.We met up at the Rose Cafe in Chelmsford for a 10am departure. The ride today was to St Neots for a picnic lunch. The ride was going to be along mainly country roads with 2 quick dashes along dual carriage ways.We went via Braintree, Bishops Stortford, Buntingford, Royston, Bassingbourn, Cambourne, Great Gransden, Abbotsley and then into St Neots. We had a quick stop at the garage on the A10 at Buntingford only to find the garage had a power failure. So on we went to Royston to fill up there. We continued on our way to St Neots for lunch. You will find some pictures at the end of this report.St Neots was quite busy in the park by the Ambience cafe, but we found a spot on the grass where we could plonk ourselves down and observe social distancing.Time came to head off for home. We retraced our steps to Royston then headed for Baldock and that we could take the bends to Buntingford. From Buntingford we went around Bishops Stortford to Sawbridgeworth, Hatfield Heath, Leaden Roding, Writtle, Chelmsford and home.People peeled off where necessary on the way home.Another great day out on good roads and with great friends. It was nice to meet new members Dave and Mike, welcome to the HOC and the Essex Branch.Today I completed 192.1 miles door to door.Until next week’s ride to Frinton On Sea, ride safe everyone.Roland Murphy.Essex Branch Secretary.
