Jan 1st 2026 CHILLY RYKAS MEET – Twelve HOWLers – ten adults, one mini-HOWLer, and Barney the dog – who didn’t howl – chilled out at a post Xmas/New Year’s Day gathering at Ryka’s. It was good to meet up with Mark again – he along with Gary and Cindy and Simon and Karen and Mark were hardcore and came by bike. We would have come on two wheels, but Jude’s knee recuperation won’t stretch to that. Indeed, ‘twas a bit chilly, with the temperature weirdly colder mid-afternoon, than the morning but a great way to start the New Year. Jon Stone

HOWL Xmas Meal at The Magpie
On Sunday 14th December 35 Howlers finished off the year in style with their Xmas Meal at The Magpie. This year’s charity raffle was on behalf of Mental Health Motorbikes. There were 10 prizes of hampers full of seasonal goodies donated by branch members. These were skilfully put together on the Saturday by Karen, Jo and Jude. Meanwhile Simon, Ian and I kept out the way, seeking refuge at The Admiral Hawke for a few hours …inevitably drinking in the afternoon leads to snoring in the evening
Gary Clarke added some intricate woodcraft prizes made of Olive wood.
Howlers raised a very creditable £246. There were generous contributions from some who weren’t actually at the meal – and so it was fitting that three of them had winning tickets – Brian, Michael Keeler and HOC Chairman Marcus (who generously ‘re-donated’ his prize back for a re-draw).
Charles as MC tested us all with some quizzes to get our ‘little grey cells’ working and devised some games which had everyone in stitches. Gary was awarded a special HOWL prize for being such ‘a good egg’ when helping Suzie, after JC’s all too close encounter with some deer earlier in the year. A brilliant way to end the year. Well done to all …and so on to an early call for ’Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year’

December 28th HOWL branch support Mental Health Motorbike
The HOWL Xmas Meal Raffle donation to Mental Health Motorbikes (MHM) was well-received as these two messages of thanks indicate. Well done to all who contributed especially those of you who weren’t at the Xmas Meal but still supported the event.
Rob Scott (MHFA) Mental Health Motorbike Administrator and Area Coordinator (West Midlands Region) ‘‘Please find attached a thank you certificate for your kind donation. Thank you for your ongoing support, which is very much appreciated.’’
Paul Oxborough (MHFA) Founding Member & Chair of the Board of Trustees ‘‘We really value this support and engagement and donations like this are very, very important to us.’’
