A Stunning Tribute on Dave Day

I awoke at 7.30am to the sound of rain hitting my bedroom window, first thought was we are going to get wet today. Took our Greyhound (Blossom) for a walk and miracles do happen, not only did it stop raining the sun started showing his face and the day started to brighten up.

I arrived home from Blossoms walk and could not get my gear on quick enough, fired up my Suzuki and went and to Tav’s burger bar where I met up with fellow bikers on the same mission to enjoy Dave’s Day and met up with 2 guys who I haven’t seen for 40years, a good catch up and one of Tav’s bacon butty with a coffee set up my day brilliantly.

I volunteered to be a Marshall for Dave Day and went to the Dock Museum for the usual hi viz and instructions, I covered the corner of Hindpool Rd and Market street  unbeknown to me the whole possessions would pass me to go to the Town Hall.

I decided to go to the Oasis at Milnthorpe and I joined up with my Daughter Kerry and her Husband Martin along with a few of their work friends.

We arrived at the Oasis and bikers were also arriving in their droves, everyone was going to meet at Burton in Kendal services to ride in with Si King,  Dave’s wife Lilana and Woody who’s idea it was.

I had to ride to take up my position back at Barrow.

On the way back people started stop at laybys along the A590 and standing on Bridges. In all my days as a biker I never felt so proud to be one, they were waving and clapping, taking pictures.

At 4.00pm they started to arrive Si King and his wife pulled up along with Woody and Lilana being pillion, rode past and it was very emotional as a large crowd gathered along Hindpool Road who were clapping and cheering.

I didn’t get chance to hear Si, Lilana and Woody do their speech as we were still guiding bikers to their parking places.

My feet were killing me, bike boots are great on the bike and a short walk but standing in them for 4 hours is a no no.

But for all aches and pains I was proud to be a Borrovian and proud that Dave Myers came from Barrow and never ever forgot where he came from. RIP Mr Dave Myers, son and a hero and a true Barrovian ( some say that he was cool Chef along with best friend Si King)

Kind Regards

Mike Bell.
