Interview with author and Alpine & Renault fanatic, Roy Smith. |
Listen to author Roy Smith talk about his new two-volume set.
Alpine & Renault – The Sports Prototypes Volume 1 (1963-1969) tells the story of the stunningly beautiful, creative, slippery aerodynamic designs that allowed Alpine to take many class wins and outright victories in championship racing, and ultimately, under Renault ownership, a victory at Le Mans. Featuring interviews with the men involved over 15 years, and illustrated with 300 dramatic photographs.
Volume 2 (1973-1978) tells the story of huge effort, ideas, sweat and tears; reputations won and lost, and a new technology – turbocharging. The cars, some of the most evocative ever seen, are described in detail – stunningly, creative, slippery aerodynamic designs that achieved many outright victories in championship racing. The long struggle to develop the V6 Turbo engines is included, along with the intense pressure put upon the Renault Sport team by the Renault company.
