MCN Title

Many things were running through my mind once I’d changed into my leathers and got ready to do a lap of the TT course with Valentino Rossi and Giacomo Agostini on Monday. Will I remember everything? Will there be any cars coming the other way? And the biggie… Will I be able to keep up?

I mean, this was a parade lap, so I half expected the two greats to just coast along waving at the thousands of spectators like the queen does from the safety of her carriage. Wrong. Sure, Rossi and Ago acknowledged the crowds; sure, they took it steady-ish through the villages… but once we got out on the Mountain it was a different story.

Being that close to Rossi when he tucked down behind the bubble heading uphill out of the Gooseneck reminded me that this bloke is a bit quick. I saw 150mph on the clocks of my R1 before I decided it might be more prudent to concentrate on following Ago’s lines than pulling wheelies.

The Speed Four may of been eclipsed by the newer, leaner Street Triple, but it's still a very good bike - especially at current prices. TT600 chassis, fully adjustable suspension and brakes mean it outclasses its more budget naked rivals. Nicely built, but check fuel hoses were replaced under recall.
